Cristina was born in Concepción, Chile, on May 13, 1970.  She is the granddaughter of the famous Chilean muralist Tomás Aguilar González and daughter of the sculptor, painter and writer María Luz Aguilar.

Her artistic talents were recognized very early on. In 1979, at the age of 9, she was selected to represent Chile in a UNESCO international art competition. Cristina has been painting since then, for the last 40 years.

As a self-taught artist, she continuously improves her style and technique. She studied with several recognized Chilean artists over the years:

  • Gina Intveen, acrylic painting
  • Pilar Rios, spatula technique in acrylic
  • Eileen Kelly, Xylography and wood engraving
  • Álvaro Huenchuleo, oil painting in grisaille technique.

In 2012, in response to the discovery of the “Children of Llullaillaco", mummies of Inca children found in the Andes in 1999, Cristina also started writing short stories.

Cristina Vera currently paints and continues to exhibit.  Her workshop is in San Pedro de la Paz, Concepción, Chile

In her own words...

Cristina Vera Aguilar and her painting

In 2012 I exhibited in New York City at Jadite Gallery, representing Chile at the Ibero-American Exhibition, together with other Latin colleagues during an unforgettable month.  I presented my artwork in acrylic and oil.

My biggest exhibition so far was at the Art Gallery of the Casino Marina del Sol, Talcahuano, Chile. I invited visual artists Yonarev and Ana María Hidalgo for an exhibition of sculptures, installations, paintings and cinema.  This "collective" had the goal to

change our awareness in a profound way of valuing life, time and people while leaving behind our virtual world addictions.
