GaBo Kussаinov are twin sisters from Kazakhstan, Galia and Bota.

The sisters, who have been deaf since infancy, have been proving throughout their life that deafness is no obstacle to creativity. Galia and Bota have been drawing since they were three years old, and their parents encouraged them, understanding that for their special children painting could be the best way of expression in this world.

"One artist in two persons" – is what an art critic Bayan Barmankulova called this art. Galia and Bota are twin sisters, and almost all their pictures are the fruit of their joint work that they sign as "GaBo", their alias. Each of them has her own, special creative style, but it does not get in the way; on the contrary, it helps the sisters’ painting as pictures by four hands. They create picturesque graphic pieces on tapestry, batik, ceramics, in embroidery, applique, installations in mixed technique - gouache, pastel, watercolors, gold and silver foil, which makes them more individual and unique.

About GaBo sisters...

GaBo Kussainov

When the sisters transform into GaBo, in them awakens a cheerful, enthusiastic, kindly ironic and mischievous creature that is fond of fairy tales, parables, legends, and love stories, - says Bayan Barmankulova. - Their work is an outpouring of senses and perceptions that delights you by its simple, childlike manner of expression. Their works exude genuine sincerity and joy, which is so important in art.

Our work is one and indivisible, the artists say. Creating our paintings, we do not meddle but complement each other.

Of course, creative differences happen, as Galia loves to paint nature scenes, wildlife, and Bota prefers bouquets in vases and fruits in unique combinations. However, their differences are a quest for a single creative solution that they always manage to find. And they are equally skillful in art.

GaBo's paintings are in the collections of the Kasteev State Art Museum in Kazakhstan, the St. Petersburg Museum, and in private collections in Kazakhstan, Russia, USA, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Vatican City, Canada, Egypt, Hungary and other countries. The artists are winners and laureates of national and international competitions and festivals, and participants of more than 40 large-scale exhibitions all over the world. They have had over 17 solo and 59 group exhibitions.
